Kayaba Industry has developed a new power steering system dubbed KEEPS (for Kayaba Electric Energy Saving Power Steering System). It uses electrical hydraulic pumps for higher fuel efficiency than conventional engine drive belt-powered hydraulic pump steering systems. Kayaba plans to introduce the system on SUVs and large passenger cars where the company claims it will improve fuel efficiency by two per cent.
