Fiat workers across Italy have raised concerns about possible job losses linked to the automaker’s new alliance with the bankrupt US firm.

“Prime Minister (Silvio) Berlusconi will preside over the meeting with the management of the company, unions and the president of the regions where the main manufacturing plants are located,” Scajola said in a statement cited by Reuters.

The government said last week it would meet unions and Fiat management on Tuesday but the meeting did not take place.

Berlusconi’s government has called for no Fiat plant closures in Italy where the automaker has six plants and employs about 30,000 people.
