Canada’s monthly new motor vehicle sales were flat at 121,290 units in April and preliminary data indicate a 1% gain in May, Statistics Canada said on Monday.

Sales of passenger cars were flat as a 5% gain in the number of overseas-made cars was offset by a 3.7% decline in those manufactured in North America, Dow Jones reported.
Sales of trucks, vans and buses fell 0.1%. Overall, new vehicle sales were down 14.9% from a year ago. Unadjusted, vehicle sales were 18.6% lower than in April 2008.
