Toyota GB says it has achieved 95% of its recall target in just three months following highly publicised accelerator issues.

The 95% equates to around 170,000 Toyota vehicles in the UK, although the manufacturer points out since its unilateral action, some 45 other recalls by other automakers were initiated.

“Due to the media impact, non-Toyota customer considerations dropped but in June we saw that come back very strongly,” Toyota GB managing director Miguel Fonseca told just-auto.

“We now have the same level of considerations as pre-recall. We have tackled the issue and have achieved 95% implementation – we take our responsibility very seriously.”

Fonseca added the impact in the UK of Toyota’s new advertising campaign – “My Toyota, Your Toyota,” was still being evaluated and will run until the end of next month.

“It [the campaign] is going extremely well – we are measuring the metrics,” he said.

The Toyota managing director added every customer involved in the recall had been contracted four times by letter, while dealers had also followed up individual customers.
