BMW’s Chinese partner Brilliance Auto is talking with Daimler about a joint venture (JV) for special use vehicles.

“The project is to convert Daimler’s commercial vehicles into special purpose vehicles. We have been in discussion since last year,” a Brilliance Auto executive told AFP.


The unnamed official said the modified vehicles would be sold in China but details are not fully decided.


‘Special vehicles’ in China usually means trucks built for specific municipal or commercial uses.


Daimler commercial vehicles are already built in China by a joint venture between the country’s Fujian Motor and Taiwan’s China Motor.


Mercedes-Benz cars are made by a JV with Beijing Automotive Industry Holding (BAIC) and a truck venture with BAIC subsidiary Beiqi Foton Motor is planned, according to the report.
