New vehicle sales in Vietnam increased by 3.6% to 10,052 units in June, compared with 9,962 units a year earlier, according to data published by the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association.
Demand for SUVs and MPVs continued to recover from the sharp decline in the first quarter, with sales growing by over 53% to 2,321 units. Passenger car sales grew by 9.8% during the month to 2,912 units, after an even stronger performance earlier in the year.

The commercial vehicle segment continued to stutter, with volumes declining by 12.9% to 4,819 units, with the segment starting to be affected by weakening sentiment.
First-half vehicle sales were up by just under 5% to 50,278 units, compared with 47,909 units a year earlier. Cumulative passenger car sales amounted to 14,133 units; while SUV and MPV volumes were down by over 10% 10,678 units. Commercial vehicle sales managed a small, 2% increase to 25,467 units.
Toyota sold 14,089 vehicles in the first half of the year, up by 29.2% year-on-year; followed by Truong Hai, which sells mainly commercial vehicles, with 11,106 units (+24.3%); followed by commercial vehicle manufacturer VinaMotor with 6,907 units (-16.1%).
