Last October’s event was blighted when most foreign makers pulled out of the show as financial belts were tightened during the economic downturn.

The Japan Automobile Importers Association said it would co-host next year’s Tokyo show with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, following a JAMA request aimed at increasing imported cars on display.

Kyodo News reported, however, the this may not assure a comeback of foreign automakers, particularly as the number of visitors to the show plunged 57% over the previous event in 2007.
