New vehicle sales in Malaysia in the first nine months of 2010 rose by 14.4% to 454,700 units, according to data released by Perodua – the country’s second national car maker now controlled by Daihatsu Motor, itself 51% owned by Toyota.

Sales in September declined by 2.5% to 44,894 units, from 46,069 a year earlier, as purchases were pulled forward ahead of the Hari Raya annual holidays, which began in August this year.

Perodua sold 141,100 units in the nine-month period, for a market share of 31%. The company said it is confident of meeting its full-year sales target of 185,000 units, which has been revised upwards from 175,000 earlier in the year.
