Magna International unit Cosma International has announced it will supply the frame [chassis] assembly for General Motors’ next generation of full-size light-duty pickups and SUVs.

This is the third generation of frames Cosma has been awarded on this platform by GM.
Cosma will produce the new frames at manufacturing facilities in St. Thomas, Ontario, and Saltillo, Mexico.
“Receiving this third-generation frame business from GM is a real testament to our ability to deliver on key areas including cost and quality,” said Horst Prelog, president, Cosma International, in a statement.
“GM is a long-term valued customer of ours and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them.”
The frames underpin the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs and Silverado trucks along with their GMC branded equivalents.
The St. Thomas plant employs around 900 people and has been building truck frames for GM since 1999.
In April, 725 employees were laid off from the Magna plant in response to GM production shutdowns during the automaker’s bankruptcy proceedings. Between 500 and 550 of the workers were called back in July, according to Reuters.
