The recently extended Plan2000E offers potential purchasers up to EUR2,000 to buy a new car emitting under 149g of CO2 per kilometre.

Dealer federation Facounato expects that replacing older, more polluting models with new vehicles will reduce CO2 emissions by 443,000 tonnes (1,133 tonnes per car) – equivalent to removing 130,000 vehicles from Spanish roads. It also noted that new environment-friendly vehicle models now on sale here would reduce CO2 emissions by a further 126,000 tonnes.

Faconautos has welcomed the government’s October extension of Plan2000E. The FER said the move would trigger the sale of 280,000 new vehicles while the Spanish auto industry had claimed the extension was essential to avert further auto sales declines as the country works its way out of a deep recession.

The announcement was also a boost for countrywide efforts to lower CO2 emissions from a level currently amongst the highest in Europe.
