Maruti Suzuki has exported 100,000 A-star/Alto in less than a year since production began, the automaker announced. The model is also built for Nissan as the Pixo on an OEM basis.

The milestone shipment left Mundra Port on Tuesday (1 December). The first shipment set saild for Europe last January.  
 
Suzuki’s fifth world model, the A-star was launched first in India in November 2008.  It is made at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant, the sole source for what Suzuki calls its “flagship export model”. It now goes to 69 countries.
 
Europe is the main market (93,562 and counting so far to 19 countries) and the car is sold as there as the Alto.


Other major markets, where the car is sold as the Suzuki Celerio, include Chile, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria and UAE. The car is also exported as the Alto to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
 
Maruti Suzuki now plans to target East European markets in the second phase of its export sales development.
 
The automaker exported 91,731 units in April-November of this fiscal year compared with 70,023 in the previous full fiscal year.
