Through a combined GAC/MIRA team of engineers, this engineering programme will help GAC to deliver a new passenger car to the market.
MIRA says it has has gained a strong reputation with OEMs for the provision of ‘technology transfer’ oriented engineering services.
Such programmes, it says, have the dual goal of not only delivering first class products but also ‘fast tracking’ the development of the engineering capabilities of the customer’s own engineering team.
At the signing ceremony, GAC Group Vice President and President of GAC’s Automotive Engineering Institute (GAEI), Professor Huang Xiangdong, expressed his confidence in selecting MIRA as GAC’s partner for this programme.
MIRA’s CEO, Dr George Gillespie commented: “I am delighted to be working with GAC, one of the top 5 OEM’s in China, on such a project. Though the UK and China have such diverse cultures it has been pleasing to see how quickly our teams have integrated and we look forward to fully supporting GAC to see this programme successfully delivered.”
Slated for launched in 2010, this new vehicle will be the first passenger car to carry GAC’s own brand (it also participates in a number of JVs with foreign makers) and will be manufactured in a new purpose built facility in Panyu district of Guangzhou.
Initial production volumes will be 100,000 pa rising to 250,000 pa.
