Buick will offer its redesigned base model LaCrosse CX with a new fuel-efficient, direct injected Ecotec 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine priced at $26,995 in the first quarter of 2010. The I4 is the third engine choice for the all new 2010 model line and, with six-speed automatic transmission, is expected to deliver fuel economy of 30mpg highway and 20mpg city- making the new Buick one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment.

“We’re pleased to announce a competitive price for this new engine,” says Craig Bierley, Buick’s product marketing director. “New customers have fallen in love with the all-new LaCrosse, and this engine will give fuel-conscious customers a new choice not even offered by our competitors.”
The Ecotec 2.4L four-cylinder joins the lineup in the first quarter of 2010 as the standard engine in the LaCrosse CX. Direct injection technology helps it deliver 182hp (136kW) and 172lb ft of torque (233Nm). Buick expects about 25% of customers will opt for I4 models.
A new, direct injected three-litre V6 is also offered along with a 3.6-litre unit.
Buick said LaCrosse sales are up 238% compared with a year ago when sales of the previous model were winding down. Buick sales in November rose 14.8% with retail sales up 33%.
