The two companies have sought approval from Chinese authorities for the tie-up, the official said.

While the official declined to disclose details about the new company, the Taipei-based Commercial Times cited unnamed sources as saying on Monday the new company will produce Yulon’s flagship Luxgen model on the mainland next year.

However, the Yulon official told AFP the future cooperation may involve a wide range of car models.

The report said Dongfeng president Xu Ping arrived in Taiwan Sunday for talks aimed at mapping out investment strategies in China.

Yulon launched the Luxgen brand in Taiwan in mid-August, targeting the upper end of the market.
