The Fabia is currently the smallest car in the range but Skoda chairman Reinhard Jung wants to introduce a smaller, lower-priced model based on the planned VW Up small car platform.

The new model could help significantly expand production in Skoda’s plants in Russia, India and China, Jung said in an interview with the Financial Times Deutschland.

This year Skoda is planning to double capacity in those countries from around 60,000 vehicles but, by 2010, expects to produce 350,000 cars a year there.
