Chinese car makers Chery Automobile and First Automobile Works (FAW) are considering building a car assembly plant in Russia’s Rostov Region, Ivan Stanislavov, the region’s deputy governor, told news agency Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
“We have had talks on the issue already and suggested a [construction] site near the city of Shakhty,” Stanislavov said, adding that the Chinese companies were expected to make a decision within two months.
The news agency noted that Chery and Russia’s Avtotor had been expected to start building an assembly plant in the Kaliningrad Region this year, but postponed it until 2009.
