Nissan has launched its Qashqai crossover sport-utility vehicle in China, aiming to sell 3,000 units a month there.

Nissan manufactures the model, which has a 2,000 c.c. gasoline engine, at a plant of its Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Motor Co., Nissan said.


The Qashqai, called Dualis in Japan, is priced at between 167,800 and 219,800 Chinese yuan.


Nissan initially started selling the Qashqai in Europe in February 2007, and sold a total of 140,000 units of the model in global markets also including Japan, Australia, the Middle East and South Africa in the same year.


China is the third country to make the Qashqai after Britain and Japan.


Nissan expects sales in China to rise 11% this year to 500,000 vehicles as it launches three new passenger car models.


The Qashqai/Dualis will be sold as the Xiaoke in China.


A Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK spokeswoman said the Xiaoke would be built at Nissan’s Huadu plant in Guangzhou.


Nissan expects passenger car sales to rise 20% year on year year to about 360,000, while sales of light commercial vehicles, mostly through its local partner Dongfeng, are seen totaling 140,000.
