Inevitably, that led to reports that Ford would, despite earlier denials, start looking for a buyer.


Even an analyst weighed in, saying such a sale would be complex but not impossible, and looks increasingly likely. After all, it proved possible to sell Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata and preserve engine supply and technology transfer deals.


Meanwhile, our own Rob Golding imagined what it was like to be a bug on the wall at top-level Ford meetings.


Things are busy in Brazil at the moment. An all-new VW Gol broke cover ahead of the official announcement, PSA came up with a unique new Peugeot 207 for the region and there were reports Toyota is set to spend US$1bn on a new economy car plant.


Finally, you occasionally hear of a whole bunch of new cars being damaged in a plant fire or going down with a sunken ship but how about 30,000 hit by a freak hail storm? It happened in Germany this week.
