Kyodo reported that the planned body is provisionally called the business council for global energy conservation and will be funded by the business community.


It will nurture the development of eco-friendly businesses, install solar power generation systems in Africa and step up international cooperation in energy conservation, according to the Energy Conservation Center, a foundation affiliated with the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.


The Kyodo report said that 14 companies have already signed up for the plan and the total number of such firms is expected to reach around 100. Firms already signed up include Toyota Motor Corp., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Canon Inc. and Nippon Steel.
