“We are expecting to sell 1,000 of our cars in the Indian market in 2008, compared to 350 last year on the back of growing demand for luxury models. The new A4 will be crucial to help us achieve this goal,” said Audi India MD Benoit Tiers.
The A4 sedan goes to India fully assembled with two engine variants – the 143bhp 2.0 TDI diesel multitronic (automatic transmission) and the 265bhp petrol 3.2 FSI tiptronic (again automatic) quattro (4WD). Audi plans eventually to manufacture the car locally at the VW group plant in Aurangabad.
“We plan to launch more [models in India], including the A3 small car, at an appropriate time” added Tiers
“India is an important market and there has been a tremendous interest in the R8, including pre-orders from customers in India, so it was inevitable we launch it here” he said.
The R8 has a 4,163cc V8 petrol engine producing 420 BHP at 7,800 rpm and can reach 100km/h in 4.6 seconds.
