NAC MG UK and Caterpillar Logistics Services (UK) have agreed a deal under which the latter’s subsidiary, XPart, will manage the supply and distribution of spare parts for MG TF cars to the Chinese automaker’s new 55-dealer network.

NAC MG recently began assembly of an updated TF limited-edition model from kits supplied from China at the former MG Rover factory in Longbridge, England.
“Supporting owners of new MGs with a high-quality aftersales parts programme is another major milestone in the re-introduction of the brand across Europe,” said aftersales manager Jack Safiruddin.
“With its experience in the distribution of MG parts and the management of high-quality service schemes, XPart is the ideal partner for this critical element of our business.”
Parts stocks will be held at XPart’s 60,000m2 distribution centre in Leicestershire alongside its existing GBP20m inventory.

The UK automaker went bust early in 2005, and administrators sold the MG brand, engine and vehicle-making equipment and associated product rights to Nanjing while the rights to Rover products went to Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) which, with Chinese government encouragement, is in the process of merging its automotive operations with Nanjing’s.
Nanjing transferred the MG Rover car and engine production lines to plants in China and subsequently set up NAC MG UK to build cars in a leased section of what is left of MG Rover’s once-vast complex – most has since been demolished to make way for a new business park.
XPart has a network of about 250 service centres across the UK which, it said provide “franchise-quality repair at aftermarket rates”. Its product range includes 40,000 parts for MG and Rover vehicles and 35,000 for other makes.
