The automaker was founded on 1 June, 2000 with FAW, FAW Xiali, Toyota and Toyota Motor (China) Investment taking 20, 30, 40 and 10% of shares respectively.
The first Vios (nased on a Yaris/Echo sedan) rolled off the line on 8 October, 2002. FAW and Toyota announced strategic cooperation in June 2003 after the reorganisation of Tianjin Motor Group and FAW.
