China Automotive Systems subsidiary, Jingzhou Henglong Automotive Parts, has signed a power steering supply agreement with ChangAn Auto.
Henglong began developing prototype power steering systems for ChangAn in February last year and has so far developed four different hydraulic power steering systems and one electronic power steering unit for the automaker.
Henglong is now supplying production power steering systems for ChangAn’s CV6 model and expects to start shipping systems for the other three models in late 2008. Total shipments for 2008 will be about 30,000 units.
China Automotive Systems CEO Qizhou Wu said: “We view the win as an important milestone as ChangAn Group is one of the largest auto manufacturing groups in China with a number of successful joint ventures with global auto makers. We see this as a good opportunity for us to break into another well established network.”
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, ChangAn Auto produced and sold around 50,000 sedans and 250,000 SUVs in 2007.
