Russia’s car output rose 20.1% year-on-year to 1.127m units in January-September, according to the Industry and Trade Ministry.
The increase was attributed to higher production of foreign-branded cars, which amounted to 454,000 cars, or 40.4% of the total car output in the period.
Companies operating under industrial assembly agreements produced 277,800 cars in the period, or 24.7% of the total output.
AvtoVAZ has announced that it expects to supply 2,000 Lada cars to Cuba in 2009 under an agreement signed with Cuba’s state-controlled corporation Cubalse, AvtoVAZ’s press office said Monday. Under the agreement, AvtoVAZ also expects to supply 630 Lada cars to Cuba by the end of this year to replace old taxis.
