The cut is the latest tranche of job losses in the last few months. The company announced plans at the end of September to slash production capacity and jobs in Europe due to declining European demand. At the time Volvo said it would begin negotiations with unions regarding labour cuts of about 1,400 workers at its plants in Ghent, Belgium, and Gothenburg and Umeå in Sweden.

The powertrain division makes engines and gearboxes for the company’s heavy trucks and construction machinery.
