Overall vehicle sales in Canada fell 10.3% in November to 105,221 units versus the 117,284 sold in November 2007, according to figures released by a trade organisation.

The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) said that sales by its member companies were down 5.2% for November compared to last year but were up 9.2% year to date.


Overall light duty truck sales were down 8.7% while passenger vehicle sales were down 11.9% compared to November last year.


Year to date vehicle sales in Canada were up slightly by 0.5% to 1,541,563 to the end of November compared to 1,533,468 at the same time last year.


Audi sales last month rose 21.6% from 606 to 737 units. Mini was up 35.1% from 265 to 358 vehicles. Honda, however, fell 27.5% from 11,464 to 8,339 units.


Acura sales plunged 58.7% from 2,212 to 914 vehicles. Mercedes grew 25.8% to 1,816 vehicles. Smart sales grew 1,670% from 10 to 177. Mitsubishi sales were up 25.8% from 1,023 to 1,287. Subaru jumped 18.5% from 1,243 to 1,473 units and Suzuki grew 16.6% from 801 to 934.
