Car and light truck sales fell 1.3% year on year to 211,204 vehicles from 213,883 a year earlier.

Citing data from the French car makers’ association, Bloomberg News said Renault sales fell 6.3% to 51,912 vehicles while Japanese affiliate Nissan Motor sales were off 26%.
It was a better result for PSA Peugeot Citroen whose sales were up 5.5% to 67,816.
Bloomberg noted that Toyota had been gaining ground against the French car makers until May, when its sales fell 13% to 8,696 units. GM’s French sales fell 17% to 11,621 vehicles, the report added.
Fiat continued to increase its share of the French market, with a 7.7% gain to 11,523 vehicles, DaimlerChrysler posted a 7.8% decline to 7,928 units, Volkswagen increased volume 0.7% to 22,037 units, BMW was up 20% to 5,326 vehicles and Ford sales fell 1% to 12,697, Bloomberg News said.
