Hino Motors Manufacturing USA on Monday said it would assemble medium and heavy-duty trucks in Williamstown, in what will be the first vehicle assembly facility in West Virginia.

The $US8.6m investment will upgrade a former Walker Systems facility and install manufacturing equipment at the 30.35-acre site. When operations begin in November, the 194,000-square-foot plant will employ about 80 people who will build 2,500 trucks annually. The Williamstown is the first full assembly plant for Hino Motors in the US.
Hino employs about 930 employees across the United States and its investment is $321.2m.
Current operations include company headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan, component production in Ontario, California, for Toyota (which has a controlling interest in the truck maker), component production in Marion, Arkansas, also for Toyota, and a final stage truck assembly operation at TABC in Long Beach, California.
Last month, HMMUSA announced it would invest an additional $70m to add equipment to the 400,000-square-foot Marion plant.
