According to the Reuters report, the Brussels-based ACEA European car manufacturers association does not publish July figures and will release July-August data in September.

However, UK global market analyst Jato Dynamics last week said the European new car market grew 5.6% year on year (69,124 units) to 1,311,084 units last month while YTD sales remained virtually flat with marginal growth of under 0.1% (8,221 units) to 9,685,098 units.

According to Reuters’ source, Volkswagen Group kept the number one spot in July, followed by PSA Peugeot Citroen, Ford, GM, Renault and Fiat.

Jato’s analysis was different. It agreed Volkswagen in July was Europe’s top-selling car brand but said it was ahead of General Motors Europe’s Opel/Vauxhall, Ford, Renault and Peugeot and noted that the order of brand performance in July also reflected the YTD order.
