DaimlerChrysler has decided that it will not spin off its loss-making small car unit Smart even though some financial investors have signalled their interest to acquire it, AFX News reported, citing the Handelsblatt newspaper.

The report said that Belgian automotive supplier Punch International is one company which had shown interest in buying Smart.
AFX added that Goldman Sachs, which DaimlerChrysler had asked to examine options for Smart, had also submitted a number of offers from other interested parties.
