The Daihatsu Australia Pty. Ltd franchise throughout Australia has been formally taken over by Toyota Motor Corp. Australia Ltd, Toyota said Wednesday (5/7/00).

The move, coming after the announcement of the takeover back in February of this year, allows Toyota to strengthen the Daihatsu brand. Daihatsu will become a separate division of Toyota, and will continue to work with its current dealer and distribution network although not all Daihatsu dealers have agreed to join Toyota.
