Automotive Systems will use Orbital Engine Corporation’s air assisted direct
fuel injection technology as a result of a technical transfer and licence agreement
the two companies signed recently.
Delphi will use the Orbital technology as part of its complete fuel and engine
management system (EMS).

The agreement is intended to enable Delphi to secure high volume production
supply contracts from automotive manufacturers.
Orbital’s lean burn combustion system is claimed to achieve fuel economy savings
of 12 to 20 percent. Both fuel economy and emissions levels for the system are
said to be superior to any competing technology.
Orbital and Delphi say they will now be in a unique position to supply their
customers with lean burn systems capable of meeting stringent U.S., European
and Asian emissions standards using common EMS architecture and fuel system
hardware.
The technical transfer and licence agreement follows a memorandum of understanding
announced between Orbital and Delphi last October under which the parties agreed
to cooperate on market development and supply of direct fuel injection systems
for worldwide automotive applications.
Orbital already has ongoing technical programs with 10 major automotive manufacturers
in Europe, United States and Asia.
