Nissan’s
assembly operation in the Philippines has reportedly been paralysed by industrial
action according to a report carried on AutoAsia online. The dispute comes just
a few months after Toyota’s Philippines’ plant was closed for 10 days by a labour
dispute.

AutoAsia reports that Nissan officials have said Universal Motors Corp., which
manufactures Nissan’s commercial vehicles, is not involved, nor is the distribution
network.

Nissan Motor Philippines noted that vehicle output was cut by more than half
because of the work slowdown implemented by union members as early as July to
pressure management to give in to their demands on wages and bonuses.
