Vehicle production last week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 301,065 units, up from the 279,196 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 11,232,107 vehicles, down 12.7 percent from like-2000’s pace.
In the U.S., automakers were expected to produce 218,080 vehicles last week, up 9.2 percent from the 199,657 cars and trucks built the week before.
To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 8,098,496 units, down 13.3 percent from the 9,345,958 vehicles built in like-2000.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 49,216, a 5.7 percent increase from the 46,574 units assembled a week previously.
Estimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,836,578 units, down 15.0 percent compared to the 2,160,903 vehicles produced in like-2000.
