The premium brand of South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor is looking to strengthen its position in the fast-growing global premium hybrid vehicle market segment.

The GV80 Hybrid is equipped with Hyundai’s latest Turbo Hybrid System, featuring a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine and a 59 kW electric motor with a combined maximum output of 352 PS, designed to deliver strong acceleration (0-100 kph in 7.1 seconds), a quieter ride and fuel consumption of 12 km per litre.

The GV80 is the first Hyundai Motor Group hybrid model to feature a liquid-cooled battery, enabling a higher maximum discharge output. Combined with a 76-litre fuel tank, the GV80 has a combined driving range of around 912 km.

The new hybrid system adopts a parallel hybrid configuration consisting of a starter-generator motor (P1), which handles engine starting and power generation, and a drive motor (P2), which provides propulsion and regenerative braking.

Other features of the hybrid system include predictive battery control, smart regenerative braking, vehicle-to-load capability and Stay Mode, which allows vehicle functions to operate using the high-voltage battery without running the engine.

The GV80 Hybrid, based on the 2026 GV80, is priced from KRW 77 million (US$ 58,000) in South Korea, including 5% consumption tax.

Genesis has also begun selling the updated 2027 GV80 and GV80 Coupe models.
