Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company has reported that its global vehicle production fell by 12.6% to 233,388 units in August 2026, down from 267,005 units a year earlier. Production in Japan plunged by over 32% to 30,196 units, from 44,586 units, while overseas output declined by almost 9% to 203,192 units, from 222,419 units.

In the first eight months of 2026, Honda’s global vehicle production declined by 4.4% to 2,181,545 units, down from 2,281,023 units a year earlier, with a 5% rise in Japan to 460,384 units more than offset by a 6.6% drop overseas to 1,721,161 units.
Vehicle production in North America rose by 8.2% to 1,160,890 units year-to-date, driven by a 12% rise in the US to 725,298 units. Production in Asia dropped by 33% to 469,972 units, including a 47% plunge in China to 225,936 units.
Registrations in Japan increased by 1.9% to 421,243 units in the eight-month period, with mini-vehicle sales rising slightly to 183,019 units and sales of other types of vehicles increasing by 3.3% to 238,224 units.
Exports from Japan fell by just over 9% to 62,356 units year-to-date, with shipments to Europe rising by 25% to 34,045 units, while exports to North America plunged by 62% to 6,403 units, and shipments to other key overseas markets fell by 11% to 21,908 units.
