Indian automotive supplier Uno Minda has announced four capacity expansion and consolidation projects across its component businesses, with a combined proposed investment of about Rs14.15bn ($147.5m).
The projects span the company’s two-wheeler alloy wheels, aluminium casting, moulding, and interior, exterior parts and sealing systems operations, although details have so far been provided for two of them.

One of the projects concerns a new greenfield aluminium casting plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, after expansion space at the company’s existing Hosur facility was used up.
This business supplies parts for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles for both combustion-engine and electric vehicle platforms.
The project is expected to involve an additional investment of Rs5.10bn and increase capacity at the site from about 13,000 metric tonnes to a peak of 30,000 metric tonnes.
Building work will take place in phases over three years, with production from the first phase scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of FY28 (April 2027 to March 2028).
The company said operations at the current Hosur facility will be consolidated and moved to the new plant by the first quarter of FY29.
Production at the new site will include structural and general-application parts, including EV and powertrain components, as well as nearly one million high-pressure die-cast alloy wheels for two-wheelers.
The second project has been approved by Uno Minda’s board and relates to an increase of 3.3 million units in two-wheeler alloy wheel capacity at Kharkhoda in Haryana, including the transfer of 2 million units of capacity now located at Supa in Maharashtra.
This project is estimated to need additional capital expenditure of Rs1.55bn and is set to be implemented over two years, with initial production planned for the fourth quarter of FY28.
According to Uno Minda, the projects are intended to “strengthen its manufacturing footprint, boost capacities across key divisions, and cater to surging demand from leading original equipment manufacturers”, while the Kharkhoda facility is specifically aimed at extending the company’s presence in the two-wheeler alloy wheel market in North India.
The announcement follows the company’s approval in July of an investment of close to Rs3.20bn for a new greenfield plant producing passenger vehicle seating systems in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, marking its entry into the four-wheeler seating business.
