Volvo Cars, owned by Chinese automaker Geely, has introduced its first long-range plug-in hybrid versions for the European and American markets, with new XC60 and XC90 SUV variants.
The new XC60 has an electric range of up to 200km on a single charge, while the XC90 offers up to 160km.

According to the company, both figures are more than two and a half times higher than those of the current plug-in hybrid versions, achieved through a new larger-capacity battery integrated into the floor and a more powerful electric motor.
When needed, the petrol engine can take over, and both vehicles will also continue to be offered as mild hybrids.
Volvo Cars president and CEO Håkan Samuelsson said: “The XC60 is our best-selling model of all time, while the XC90 marked the beginning of our premium journey.
“Now, as long-range plug-in hybrids, they build on those legacies and, together with the all-electric EX60, give us our strongest-ever electrified offering in the mid-size SUV segment. This means a path to full electrification for every customer.”
The XC60 has also been given a design refresh, with changes to the front and rear exterior, a revised grille, a redesigned front bumper, bonnet and front wings, and new wheels.
The updated XC60 includes Volvo’s latest active safety technology, including automatic emergency steering, automatic emergency braking and alerts for approaching cyclists when a door is opened.
Driver support functions include lane change assist and a 360-degree camera with 3D view, backed by an upgraded sensor set of radars and cameras.
It also features an 11.2in screen running Volvo Car UX, described by the company as its latest infotainment system.
Both the XC60 and XC90 now include Google Gemini.
The XC90 continues as a seven-seat premium SUV and is available with an optional Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.
Volvo said the new XC60 and XC90, including the Black Edition, are available to order from today (15 September 2026) in selected markets, with production scheduled to begin later this autumn.
The carmaker added that the vehicles will receive regular over-the-air software updates after purchase.
The company said the long-range plug-in hybrids support its sales and profitability targets, represent investment in its current model range, and extend its transition towards full electrification.
Earlier this month, Volvo Cars launched its locally assembled EX90 battery-powered flagship SUV in Malaysia, as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the country’s rapidly expanding zero-emissions vehicle market.
