BMW group vehicle sales grew 5.7% to 800,931 units in the first seven months of 2006.

BMW brand volume rose 8.2% to 683,724 cars. The 3 series remains brand top seller and new versions helped boost sales of 25.1% to 290,587. 7 series flagship volume grew 16.4% to 29,072 units helped by strong sales this year in China. 5 series volume was up 3.3% to 135,704.

BMW said July volumes of some models was down year on year due to model cycle effects – this affected such lines as the 3-series coupe, about to be replaced in September, the X5 SUV (redesigned model coming soon) and the X3 (facelift from September).

July 2006 group sales of 102,452 units, though off 7.7%, were nonetheless the second-best the company has achieved in the month.

Mini sales last month fell 7.7% to 15,804 compared with 17,124 in July 2005 as the model comes to the end of its life and the Oxford, UK, plant is retooled for yet more volume. Year to date July volume was 116,869 units, down 6.7% – still very credible for a model in its sixth year on sale virtually unchanged from launch apart from a very minor facelift two years ago – though the convertible did provide a useful mid-cycle boost, too.
