Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation reported a 5.2% year-on-year decline in global sales to 912,683 units in July 2026, including its Lexus and Daihatsu brands, with sales in Japan rising by 6.6% to 193,785 units, while overseas sales fell by 8.1% to 718,898 units, with deliveries affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and rising competition in global markets.

In the first seven months of the year, the group’s global sales fell by 2.6% to 6,275,281 units, with sales in Japan rising by 5.8% to 1,279,537 units, while overseas sales fell by 4.5% to 4,995,744 units. The data do not include sales by Japanese truck maker Hino, which was spun off from the group at the end of March 2026.

Global sales of Toyota- and Lexus-branded vehicles combined fell by 3.2% to 5,865,023 units year-to-date, with sales in Japan rising by 5.7% to 954,818 units, while overseas sales fell by 4.8% to 4,910,205 units. Sales in North America rose by just under 1% to 1,707,751 units in this period, with sales in the US rising slightly to 1,459,752 units, while deliveries in Latin America (excluding Mexico) fell by 5.0% to 273,128 units. In Asia, excluding Japan, sales fell by 8.2% to 1,668,907 units, reflecting mainly an 18% plunge in China to 809,417 units. In Europe, volumes were slightly higher at 709,500 units.

Toyota and Lexus reported an almost 10% rise in global sales of electrified vehicles to 3,180,993 units in the first seven months of 2026, accounting for over 54% of total sales. Global sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose by 130% to 230,163 units, most of which were sold overseas, while sales of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) rose by 5.1% to 2,731,214 units.

Daihatsu’s global sales increased by 6.7% to 410,258 units year-to-date, with sales in Japan growing by 6.0% to 324,719 units, while overseas sales increased by 9.1% to 85,539 units.
