Honda do Brasil will produce the compact Fit/Jazz hatchback in Brazil from the beginning of 2003 with sales starting in April, writes Rogério Louro Alves.

The car will be made in the Sumaré plant, in São Paulo state, that was opened in October 1997. The plant currently builds only the Civic sedan and Honda has not yet said how much it will invest to expand capacity to make the Fit/Jazz.

The South American-made compact car will have an 83bhp 1.4-litre engine.

Honda’s Fit (Jazz) will join the Civic sedan on a Brazilian production line next year
