September light vehicle sales in Canada were up 9.3% to 135,764 units, the second consecutive month of strong growth in a year when demand has fluctuated, according to data from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.

The total market year-to-date is up 1.3%.


September saw particularly strong growth in light trucks with sales up 16.6%.


GM dominates the Canadian vehicle market and year-to-date has a 25.9% share, but this is down from 28.5% in full year 2005. Nevertheless GM sales rose 7.9% in September to 35,166 units. Toyota now ranks second in the market with sales of 16,247 units in September, ahead of DaimlerChrysler (16,191) and Ford (15,294).


Strong sales growth came from fifth-ranking Honda, whose sales rose over 52% to 14,702 units.
