Geely Auto has officially launched assembly of its EX2 compact battery electric vehicle (BEV) model in Indonesia, as the Chinese automaker continues to expand its overseas operations.

The EX2 is produced by local contract assembler Handal Indonesia Motor, after trial production was completed last year. The new model is assembled alongside the EX5 BEV and the Starray, which is available both as a BEV and a plug-in hybrid.

Geely Auto Indonesia suggested that the facility at Handal has the capacity to assemble 60 vehicles per day, enough to support its growth ambitions in the short term. Handal is also the local assembly partner for China’s Chery Automobile.

Geely Auto Indonesia CEO, Wu Chuxing, claimed the EX2 has a local content of 46%, adding that local assembly allows the company to “combine global standards and local relevance.” He further pointed out that local production “demonstrates Geely’s strong commitment to making Indonesia a key automotive base in Southeast Asia.”

Geely said it had received over 1,000 pre-bookings for the EX2 since it began taking orders in November. Prices for the EX2 start at IDR 233 million (US$ 13,730).
