US-based semiconductor manufacturer Diodes has added new automotive-grade bipolar transistor series, DXTN/P 78Q and DXTN/P 80Q, to its portfolio.
The components are intended for use in vehicles with 12V, 24V and 48V electrical architectures.

The expanded lineup introduces 12 NPN and PNP devices aimed at power switching and control tasks in automotive electronics.
According to the company, these devices are designed to run without interruption at junction temperatures as high as 175°C.
The new transistors are designed with ultra-low saturation voltage characteristics to support conduction and manage heat more effectively, the group said.
They enable higher power density in space-constrained designs.
Compared with SOT223-packaged alternatives, the devices are stated to allow printed circuit board area reductions of up to 75%.
They are designed to lower conduction losses by as much as 50% compared with previous-generation devices.
Target applications include gate driving for MOSFETs and IGBTs, power-line and load switching, low-dropout regulation, DC-DC converters, and the control of motors, solenoids, relays and actuators.
Both DXTN/P 78Q and DXTN/P 80Q cover collector-emitter breakdown voltages from 30V to 100V.
The DXTN/P 80Q family supports continuous currents up to 10A and can handle pulse currents up to 20A.
The devices are characterised by a 17mV saturation voltage at 1A and a minimum on-resistance of 12mΩ.
All parts use the PowerDI 3333-8 package, measuring 3.3mm by 3.3mm and incorporating an underside heatsink rated at 4.2°C/W thermal resistance.
Enhanced visibility for automated optical inspection is provided by the side-wall plateable construction, which also reinforces solder joints and is aimed at streamlining quality checks and high-volume assembly.
For orders of 6,000 units, the DXTN/P 78Q series is listed at between $0.19 and $0.21 per unit, while the DXTN/P 80Q series is priced between $0.20 and $0.22.
For industrial and commercial use, DXTN/P 78 and 80 non-automotive standard-compliant variants are also being offered.
