Proton Holdings has officially launched its second battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, the e.Mas 5, as Malaysia’s first national carmaker looks to continue playing a leading role in the country’s transition to zero-emission vehicles. Its first BEV, the e.Mas 7, was launched less than a year ago.
Both BEV models, along with recently launched internal combustion engine (ICE) models, are based on models produced by Chinese automaker Geely Holding Group, which owns a 49.9% stake in Proton Holdings.

Proton said the e.Mas 5 compact passenger car is Malaysia’s first “affordable” electric vehicle (EV), “designed to make sustainable mobility accessible to all Malaysians.” On-the-road prices start at MYR 59,800 (US$ 14,300) for the Prime variant, rising to MYR 72,800 (US$ 17,400) for the Premium variant, with a MYR 3,000 rebate available as a launch promotion. It comes with a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery and drivetrain warranty.
Proton said it has secured over 5,000 bookings for the e.MAS 5 in the three weeks after it opened its order book in early October. In the first nine months of 2025, the company sold a total of 6,655 units of the larger e.Mas 7 model, including 443 units shipped overseas.
The e.Mas 5, based on the Geely Xingyuan, is powered by a 30 kWh CATL lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack, providing a range of 325 km on a single charge. It is driven by an 85 kW rear-mounted motor, delivering 150 Nm of torque and an acceleration from 0–50 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The batteries can be charged from 30% to 80% in 21 minutes using a DC fast charger.
The Proton e.MAS 5 features 12 advanced driver-assistance functions, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Blind Spot Detection. Its body is reinforced by Geely’s Star Armor Cage Structure, while the battery pack has a 3+2 layered protection system that provides thermal safety.
