Germany automotive components manufacturer ZF Group has launched operations at its newly built electronic parking brake (EPB) plant in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), in China’s Hubei Province.

The new EPB plant is the third major facility built by ZF in Wuhan in the last two years, following the company’s recently completed construction of a major airbag manufacturing base and airbag R&D facility in the city.

According to the WEDZ authorities, the new EPB plant is recognized as a ‘benchmark factory’ that meets national green factory standards due to its sustainable design. It features smart meters for energy consumption monitoring, skylights to provide natural light, and AGV robots that operate between workstations.

The plant also includes an ISO 8 cleanroom for the production of electronic brake calipers (EMB) and the company plans to introduce a line for the production of next-generation EMB (brake-by-wire) systems to meet growing demand from new energy vehicle manufacturers.

ZF Group board member, Peter Holdmann, said in a statement: “We are increasing our R&D investments in intelligent chassis technology, with integrated software and hardware solutions becoming key drivers of the ‘performance leap’ of next-generation vehicles in the Chinese market.”
