General Motors announced that it plans to launch its Super Cruise hands-free advanced driver assistance systemin South Korea in November, for “properly equipped models” on compatible major inter-city roads in the country. GM is in the process of rolling out its Super Cruise service globally, having already launched the system in the US, Canada, and China.
The US automaker claims that that “with an attentive driver and under proper conditions, Super Cruise allows hands-free driving, using a combination of real-time cameras, sensors, GPS, and LiDAR maps to make long drives and commutes more comfortable.”

GM said its Super Cruise system features include turn-signal activated lane changes, automatic lane changes, and driver monitoring to help ensure the operator continues to pay attention to the road. It will be available initially on a Cadillac model.
In North America, Super Cruise has been available since 2017, and is currently available on 23 GM models, covering more than 600,000 miles of mapped roads in North America.
In South Korea, the system currently covers a road network of over 14,000 miles, including expressways such as the Gyeongbu Expressway linking Seoul and Busan, and major arterial roads. GM has established an over-the-air network in South Korea for ongoing updates of both maps and software features. GM will launch Super Cruise on a Cadillac model later this year.
GM Korea’s managing director, Hector Villarreal, said in a statement: “Bringing Super Cruise to South Korea will enable us to differentiate from competitors by providing an incredible hands-free, eyes-on driving experience.”
