According to Reuters, Stellantis detected unauthorised access to a third-party service provider’s platform that supports its North America customer service activities.
According to the report, Stellantis said the data breach involves basic contact information and not financial or other sensitive personal data. The company has said it is following incident response protocols and has informed the relevant authorities. It is also warning customers to be alert to possible phishing attempts.
The Stellantis news comes as many other larger companies – including carmakers – are reporting cyber-attacks and data breaches, often with highly disruptive consequences.
Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported a cyber-attack at the end of last month that is still halting a resumption of output at its UK plants (latest information is that production is due to re-start later this week – Wednesday 24th).
