South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with local cargo logistics platform operator Sendy.ai, to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven logistics platform for Hyundai’s battery-powered ST1 (Service Type 1) light van. The van, powered by SK On batteries, was launched in South Korea last year.

Under the agreement signed this week, the two companies will integrate Sendy’s AI-based logistics optimization system in Hyundai’s ST1 van, to establish an efficient and eco-friendly last-mile delivery service.

ST1 vans equipped with the AI system, which recommends optimal delivery routes and helps minimize empty return trips, are scheduled to go into service in Seoul in the second quarter of 2025 before being rolled out in other major cities in the country later in the year. Hyundai said it aims to have 100 such vans in operation by the end of 2025.

Sendy confirmed that Hyundai has agreed to provide essential vehicle data and technical support to ensure smooth operation of the AI system.

A Hyundai official said in a statement: “This collaboration with Sendy is not just about launching a logistics service, but about creating a new paradigm of AI-powered smart transport.”
