December car sales by Hyundai Motors in India rose 61% over the corresponding month in 2003 due to strong demand from domestic and export markets.

A total of 19,929 vehicles was delivered in the month taking the 12 months count to 215,630 units, an increase of 43% over 2003.
In domestic sales, Hyundai shifted 9,200 units of the Santro Xing, 660 Getz, 2,000 Accent, 432 Elantra, 131 Sonata and 7 Terracan SUVs. Growth in domestic sales was much higher at 99% while exports rose 22%.
Most of the gains came from accumulated demand for the Santro, which is now second only to the Maruti Alto in overall passenger car volume.
Earlier in the year, plant output for the domestic market was restricted due to expansion work and priority for exports. Full domestic production came online in the fourth quarter and sales were boosted.
